PUBLIC PROGRAMS

Opening Teas and most Wednesday programs are open to the public free of charge. For information on last minute changes or weather-driven cancellations, call the Club at (914) 723-0024. Unless otherwise noted, all programs begin at 1 pm.

 
September 2016  
  8 Thu Membership Drive and Open House: Come learn about The Scarsdale Woman's Club and join us for refreshments (1-4 pm).
  14 Wed Food and Dining Opening Tea: - Bernard Janssen, Zwilling J. A. will present "What Makes a Great Knife and How to Use It?"
  16 Fri Home and Garden Opening Tea: Kent Russell well-known garden guru, will provide an inspirational program about plants - 2 pm.
  19 Mon Pottery Opening Coffee: Tour pottery rooms, demonstration in wheel throwing, decorative painting and cleaning green ware - 2 pm.
  20 Tue Art Opening Tea: Cherise Klebanov will discuss "Transformation: Behind the Scenes at an Auction House" - 2 pm.
  22 Thu Literature Opening Tea: Sarah Bracey White, director of Arts and culture for the Town of Greenburgh, will share her coming of age memoir, Primary Lessons - 2 pm.
  27 Tue Mediterranean Culture Opening Tea: Soprano Cristina Fontenelli will perform French repertoire featuring songs made famous by Edith Piaf.
  29 Thu Travel Opening Tea: Susanne Servin will entertain us with "A Taste of Austrian Delights" to welcome us to Vienna - 2 pm.
October 2016  
  5 Wed Fran Claro, author of The Macaroni's in the Basement, will discuss the lives of four Italian grandmas in post-WWII Brooklyn.
  13 Thu Music Opening Tea: A Musical Potpourri by section performers - 2 pm.
  19 Wed Ellen Chaim Kracko will present the topic "Jewish Refugees in Shanghai," relating the stories of the 20,000 Jewish refugees who fled the Nazis and sought refuge in Shanghai between 1933 and 1941.
  26 Wed China's Gift - Tai Chi. Norma Castle will share its history and teach us basic routines to help develop balance.
November 2016  
  2 Wed Rabbi Frank Tamburello will present "The Secret Jews of Calabria" - the history and traditions of Italian Jews living in Calabria with roots going back to the Inquisition.
  9 Wed Author Anthony Musso will discuss his book FDR and the Post Office.
  16 Wed Talk by violinist Yeou-Cheng Ma (sister of Yo-Yo Ma), and performance with pianist Rita Kuo.
  30 Wed Holidays Through the House - Open House: Entertainment by the Choral Singers, the Scarsdale Middle School Jazz Band, table arrangement displays, pottery exhibit, and a Holiday Boutique with treasures from the attic, wreathes and pottery items for sale (12-4 pm).
December 2016  
  7 Wed Jeremy Blachman, attorney and author of The Curve, will relate his story of the students at a decrepit law school in Brooklyn who are in debt and fighting over the few jobs left for those who are far outside the Ivy.
  14 Wed Associate Professor Hamish Lutris of Housatonic Community College in Connecticut will trace "The Age of Progress: The Inventions of the Nineteenth Century."
January 2017  
  4 Wed "Who Is Taking Care of You?" Dr. Michelle Brody, author of Stop the Fight, will speak on Care for the Caregiver.
  11 Wed Gemologist and decorative arts and design historian Devon Caraher will present "A Historical Look at Jewelry: from the Ancient World to the Present."
  18 Wed Art lecturer Rick Starr will present Anatomy of Sculpture Part II.
February 2017  
  1 Wed Cindy Hoddeson, Dir., North America, at the Monaco Government Tourist Office, will talk about the "jewel" of the Riviera. Learn about the Principality's history, culinary traditions, and arts scene.
  8 Wed The Best of Tango - a performance by Carolina Jaurena and Andres Bravo, Argentine dance instructors.
  22 Wed Presentation on charities helping women and children in Westchester.
March 2017  
  8 Wed Maggie Scott Greenfield, Deputy Director of the Bronx River Alliance, will speak about "Restoring the Bronx River."
  15 Wed Classical Trio: Karen Bredberg, cello; Christina Khimm, violin; Rita Kuo, piano will perform.
  22 Wed Renowned Chef Peter X. Kelly, Owner of Xaviar's Restaurant Group - 2 pm.
  29 Wed Maggie Barbieri, author of the Murder 101 mysteries, returns. Accompanying her will be friend and fellow writer Laura Bradford, author of The Amish Mysteries, for a Q&A about how they get their ideas as writers.
April 2017  
  5 Wed Presentation given by the NY Historical Society on the Audubon watercolors and the new Permanent Gallery dedicated to Women's History.
  12 Wed Exploring with Upper Class Trips.
  26 Wed Doug Metz of Scarsdale Agency, Inc. will offer important suggestions about insuring your home and special personal items.
May 2017  
  3 Wed How education, laws and technology are improving driver safety: Speakers will give an overview of driver education programs such as those given by AAA and AARP and describe legislative initiatives to improve safety for all drivers and pedestrians. Accident-prevention technology in cars will also be discussed.
  10 Wed Prof. Marilyn Weigold of Pace University will talk about her new book, Yonkers in the Twentieth Century.
